Marinated Tofu Bites

 These little suckers are delicious. Even your friends who say they don’t like tofu will gobble these up. Glori claims they taste like chicken. All I know is that they make a great appetizer.

They are also delicious served with Soba Noodles and Asian Pesto. Note that you can substitute shrimp for the tofu.  If you do this the shrimp only need to marinate for 30 minutes or so.

This recipe is adapted from one of my favorite vegetarian cookbooks, Food from The Place Below, by Bill Sewell.


  • 1. Put tofu triangles into bowl.
  • 2. Create marinade by mixing tamari, wine, water, garlic and ginger in a medium mixing bowl.
  • 3. Pour marinade over tofu, turning tofu to ensure each piece is well covered.
  • 4. Marinate in refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  • 5. Heat oven to 400°.
  • 6. Remove tofu from marinade and place on baking sheet
  • 7. Mix sesame oil and Tabasco and pour over tofu, turning to coat each piece.
  • 8. Bake 40 minutes to an hour depending on size of tofu pieces, turning half way through.
  • 9. Remove from oven when crisp and serve at room temperature with chili sauce.
