"“How much do I have to work out?”
As a healthy aging coach, I often get asked this question.
My answer might surprise you. You don’t have to work out at all! Nope. Nor do you have to go to the gym, count your steps, take a spin class or wear spandex—unless you want to.
What you MUST do is move your body.
Take me, for example. I’ve never taken a HIIT class in my life, yet I’d say I’m in pretty decent shape, especially for a 56-year old. I LOVE moving my body, especially out of doors.
In fact, we fired our lawn guy. He did a terrible job, mowed over a baby tree I had been nurturing, and cost a lot of $$. (I’m not bitter about the tree at all 🤣.)
I figured I could do a better job, save us some $$ AND have fun using my muscles (including my heart) by trimming our shrubs with an old-fashioned, people-powered hedge trimmer.
If you like going to the gym, GREAT! Keep going.
But if the lifestyle you’re leading doesn’t account for some kind of movement, you are setting yourself up for bad news as you grow older.
One of the ways I empower my clients to remain healthy and vibrant as they age is by helping them find a time and a place to move their body in a doable and enjoyable way.
New muscles and improved fitness levels will have you feeling even stronger, sharper and more confident than you felt decades ago. My Healthy Aging Intensive also includes a membership to my online yoga community so you can log in from anywhere to do a few stretches, or grab a “Fit in Five,” video when you’re short on time.
I’d love to know, what’s your funnest form of movement? And does anyone else out there trim their own hedges? 🤣"
